What to expect on this trip

Antarctica is not visited. It is reached. This expedition brings together two of the most difficult-to-access destinations on Earth: the geographic South Pole and a remote Emperor Penguin colony deep within the continent.
From White Desert’s Antarctic camps, ski-equipped aircraft carry you nearly 2,400 kilometers into the interior. Fewer than 500 people reach the South Pole each year. At 90°S, you stand at the southernmost point on Earth — a milestone that for generations represented the pinnacle of exploration.
The Emperor Penguin colony at Atka Bay offers a different kind of rarity. Reached by dedicated aircraft and over-ice vehicles, the experience places you within view of the largest penguin species on the planet in its natural Antarctic environment. Timing determines what the colony looks like, but the scale and resilience of these birds remain constant.

Accommodation is based at one of White Desert’s three signature camps.
Whichaway Camp is set within one of Antarctica’s rare ice-free oases. Exposed rock, sculpted blue ice, and a chain of freshwater lakes define the setting. Six insulated pods with private en-suite bathrooms and glass conservatories provide warmth and privacy, while a sauna, ice plunge, yoga dome, and chef-led dining add refinement to an otherwise elemental landscape.

Explorer Camp sits beneath the dramatic profile of T-Rex Mountain, surrounded by sweeping ice fields. Designed in alpine expedition style, it serves as the launch point for South Pole journeys. Heated sleeping tents open onto uninterrupted ice vistas, and communal spaces create a purposeful, expedition-focused atmosphere.

Echo Base offers the most contemporary interpretation of polar living. Inspired by space exploration and engineered for extreme conditions, its futuristic sky pods sit elevated above the ice, each with expansive windows framing uninterrupted Antarctic horizons. Interiors are minimal, heated, and meticulously designed, creating a striking contrast between modern architecture and the vast white expanse beyond.

Each camp maintains strict environmental standards and minimal footprint protocols, ensuring that comfort never compromises conservation.

Activities vary by camp and conditions and may include glacier hikes, ice climbing, abseiling, exploration of nearby nunataks, photography guidance, wellness sessions, and evenings in the ice cinema. Every experience is shaped by location and weather, reinforcing that this is still true expedition territory.

This expedition suits travelers drawn to defining milestones, extreme environments, and access granted to only a select few each season.
